THE FIELD GUIDE / START HERE
Welcome to the workbench
Understand the controller, connect a server and make your first reviewed patch.
What is Mr Patchy?
Mr Patchy is a self-hosted control center for Linux package management, security monitoring, investigations and recovery. The dark glass workbench brings fleet-wide status and individual server workflows together, with a rather enthusiastic raccoon keeping you company.
Your first five steps
- Install the controller with Docker Compose and configure your HTTPS address.
- Sign in as admin, then create named accounts and enable MFA.
- Enroll a target and verify its SSH host fingerprint.
- Inspect the package inventory, repository status and monitoring evidence.
- Select eligible updates, review the job policy and follow execution in Activity.
Know the moving parts
Caddy terminates HTTPS. The web application serves the workbench and API. Workers collect inventory and execute durable jobs through verified SSH or supported cloud transports. SQLite or MySQL stores configuration, history and job state. Persistent volumes retain application identity, SSH keys and certificate material. The high-availability guide explains shared state and redundant ingress.
